Ok. So, now that the government will run the car companies... do you expect them to come up with great aesthetic solutions? I don't.
I'm not sure that the CEO's of the car companies have all the blame in the fact that car sales are down 40-50%. People just aren't buying because they have been scared out of their minds! If anything, government-ran agencies have a great blame (Fannie Mae, etc) for allowing the creation of the mortgage mess.
The media has been pushing on the panic button for sometime now and have freaked people out. Stop pushing it! We're tired of hearing the noise!
The United States is a great country people! Have some faith in it and the residents of it. Let's turn things areound, tt can be done. Why have we become so wussified?
Anyway...
Here is a link that gives you an idea of what cars will be looking like pretty soon: http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/23/car-by-congress-the-2012-pelosi-gtxi-ss-rt-sport-edition/

American car sales have been declining long before the this unsustainable economic model started to fail.
Why? In my opinion:
Because they are ugly and no one wants an ugly car. Seriously folks. Nothing cool ever comes out of the big three. American design is homogeneous, copy-cats copying copy-cats. Its all crap. And Corvettes ARE UGLY.
As I have said before: blame it on the Bauhaus. "Design" today means "clean, simple, acceptable, manufacturable" READ: ugly, meaningless, cheap, and identity free. And I also might add: useless.
Oh boy...soap box...I'll stop here...
